An Introduction to Vocal Alchemy

During my experiences facilitating Vocal Alchemy circles, I have found that many people express a blockage or inhibition in their use of their Voice – whether their singing voice or the ways in which people diminish their communication and expression; which everybody seems to describe according to their own experience. Thus, it became evident to me that people need inspiration and tools to learn how to move through restriction with the Voice, Expression, and Creative Energy.

Intention

In my experience, I have found that people simply need a supportive and safe environment within which to let go. That’s the goal of Vocal Alchemy work; to provide a safe and supportive environment within which to open up and release fear and inhibition with the voice. Ultimately, I believe that the most desired result is a heart-centered unified group vibe of deep presence. This work seeks to create a unifying experience for those that are present, rather than an ego-centric, separationist state of better than, less than. The Vocal Alchemy work is highly inspired by the writings of Bradford Keeney, found in Bushman Shaman, in which he describes the shamanic rituals of the !Kung / San Bushmen of Namibia. There, the goal of healing is for the community to come together in an ecstatic, heart-centered dance & song ritual around a bonfire. Healing is facilitated by the elder Shamans, who ecstatically merge with those out of balance, and bring them back to the heart, back to joy and vitality. Thus, the ultimate desired direction of the Vocal Alchemy work is ecstatic, tribal unification.

Using the Voice is a Safe way to access the deeper states of Consciousness that is Non-Strenuous on the Body, is Non-Toxic and Non-Psychedelic for those who wish to stay “Grounded”, and is a way to Intuitively access a greater Flow of Life Force Energy and Creative Energy, by opening the voice and clearing the blockages there to its flow.

Communication & Expression

Clear Communication is one of the most crucial ways we bridge our consciousness into this world. But often, our voice is confused; hiding in a repressive state of fear, insecurity, and self-doubt. It is crucial to develop tools to listen to ones own authentic inner voice and develop the fearlessness to express our truth & authenticity in the world. Developing the tools of our voice can help us reclaim our power, our authenticity, our ability to be in balance in communication, our ability to listen, and to be courageous risk-takers stepping into our life with intention.

The tools I have to share are based in a Taoist perspective of working with internal energy and cultivating power and awareness. Bridging vocal empowerment with breathwork, microcosmic orbit practice, Qi cultivation practices and Alchemical Song Ceremonies is a powerful way of releasing the Fear held within the throat chakra and unleashing our freedom of expression, innate creativity and joyful heart. Cultivating the alchemy of the voice within a ritual setting, using meditation and breathwork practices, is all about tapping into the non-linear, non-rational mind – which leads to the blissful, expansive heart.
